from Jayski Wink

NASCAR to buy IRL, or use common engines

*Bill France Jr. popped in the Daytona press room the other day and said the ISC could have some interesting Indy-car news in the next few weeks. Tony George's Indy Racing League has been struggling. The France family's ISC has a major interest in a viable IRL. Winston Salem Journal*........And he did offer the tease that some Indy-car news might be breaking out in Phoenix later this month at the Copperworld Classic. Winston Salem Journal* [Editor's Note: We suspect one of three things are in the works - 1) either the France family is going to buy the struggling*IRL and bring it under the NASCAR family name and put their billions of dollars of marketing might behind it , or 2) the IRL is going to adopt the NASCAR engine formula after 2006 when the current formula expires, 3) NASCAR executives have already*floated a proposal for a new "common" engine for the Nextel Cup series, looking toward the 2007 Daytona 500, the same date the IRL will have their new engines in place. With Honda and Toyota clearly on their way to Nextel Cup, and Chevy already in*both, how convenient it would be to have an engine that is the same for both series. We do know that Toyota has proposed to NASCAR that they adopt the IRL engine as their*future powerplant, but that was rejected because the existing*engine builders would have to scrap their existing parts. However, it is going to have to happen sooner or later (new NASCAR engine formula) and doing it at the same time the IRL does it makes a lot of sense.]

===================================

So, consider this:

1. IRL is for sale !!

2. NASCAB is interested !!

3. IRL is considering same engines as NASCAB !!

4. NASCAB wants to do in IRL !!

5. TG is almost out of IRL !!

6. TG has no more access to money in order to fund IRL !!

7. IRL is slowly dying since Chevy, Toyota, and Honda are moving out one by one !!

So, what choice does IRL have but sell their ass ?! Laughing Twisted Evil

Isn't it all ironic ?? - first they wanted to kill CART and now they are on the chopping block ?! Shocked Mr. Green

Wasn't the last offer France made (last year): $3 BILLION for the whole schpass - IMS & IRL ???... most likely the price/value has dropped by now... should TG wait any longer it may go down to $1bil before he'll get the monkey off his back... hihihaha... Twisted Evil Wink Mr. Green

Yeah, fine... but with all the crap coming down on IRL (and IMS by the same token)... the TV ratings going down, everybody knowing that IRL is in shambles with all the engine manufacturers leaving... what the heck does the IRL have left ?? - the NASCAB stock engines ??... yeah, they will definitely come into play when France will push the button -> ie: BUY IRL + IMS and "let's run our own show" - and what is the big deal here for France ?? - he's got money up the ying-yang, as compared with TG's hands being cut off at the coffers... and by that time the whole cabooze may not be worth $3bil as it is now... and that is the dilemma that TG is facing: putting up a "For Sale" sign is cute - - - Dover did that two years ago, and what happened ?? - nothing... sooner or later the TG contingent will crumble and THEY WILL SELL OUT !!!... food for thought... Wink Mr. Green

TG and the France family are going to most likely end up with a common spec for the GrandAm proto engines, most likely nothing more. The IRL isn't for sale. We might also see some GrandAm co-promotions in the future.

The $3B is what IMS is worth if it was for sale. Three key races, a huge amount of real-estate with state of the art infrastructure (and several port-a-potties Cool ), and the facility is recognized on the USA historic register as an"OFFICIAL HISTORICAL MONUMENT".

Hey Yoyo,
if IRL was not for sale then why these two topics:

1. Last year France offered $3.5bil for IMS + IRL !!

2. This year the topic comes back !!

Evidently, somehwere behind the closed doors, this kaka is being discussed... ... ...look at it from your point of view - would you consider it ???... speaking businesswise - I surely would... fine, it is a "Historical" thingy - but, the Hulmans are almost dead and TG is not capable of running this schpass - might as well take the money and run... ... ...and don't tell me about his "open-wheeled racing objectives" -> there is no such thing, the fokker was only brainwashing us while he was thinking in $$$ terms... you know it and I do - let us not fool each other... => that was one part !!

The second part is TG's desire to preserve the "family" and/or "Indy" tradition = = => here is where the problem comes in - Do I want to cash in, or do I want to struggle ??... ... so, TG is considering playing golf after the whole shenaningas gets sold... and don't tell me that it isn't for sale !! = we wouldn't be having this conversation if it wasn't ?! Idea Rolling Eyes

Sooooooooooooo, let's think about it again ?! Wink Mr. Green

While Tony and I rarely confer Cool , my understanding is the IRL isn't for sale, and TG is pretty happy where he is with it right now.

TG and Bill talk quite a bit, and anytime TG sits in a room with anybody, the rumors float out about sell, buy, etc. If you are looking for a something for NASCAR to buy rumor, try the ASA Rolling Eyes

Hey Yoyo,
let's look at this realistically as well:

1. France didn't buy Brutus but paid heavily.

2. Both Brutus and France are ten times smarter than TG.

3. Hulmans are slowly expiring and by giving TG the reins of IMS it clearly shows that they are NOT really interested in carrying on the "Hulman Tradition" -> just felt like throwing this in.

4. Hulmans DID cut off little TG from the coffers.

5. TG relinquished IRL to Barnhart and slowly IRL is becoming a separate entity.

6. The $3bil price tag may be right and may only be a rumor, but the concept IS there.

So, the only question I see here is: WHEN ?!... and sooner or later it will happen... and by 2008 the $3bil marker will be worth only $2bil ?!?! - you know it and I do ?! Wink Mr. Green
